KALYANI FOUNDATION: Following Mother’s Footsteps

Named after Bikram Dasgupta’s mother Kalyani, who has been the inspiration in his life, Kalyani Foundation supports old age homes and helps skill building of specially-abled adults and children, along with ‘Feeding the Poor’ across India

It’s always said that the best teaching comes from one’s mother. BDG was lucky to have a mother like Kalyani, who instilled in him the values of service, love and care for the society, a level of compassion that helped Bikram Dasgupta set up Kalyani Foundation, named after his mother. It is a not-for-profit foundation with a charter of giving back to the most-needy sections of society and has been designed to create a more equitable social fabric around us. The foundation is a tribute to his mother who has indeed been the greatest inspiration in his life.

Through Kalyani Foundation, BDG has touched upon human lives, given the due dignity to those who are least accepted in the society, the specially-abled adults and children, the poor migrant labourers, the elderly who live a lonely life away from their families in old age homes. He truly fulfills the wishes of his dear mother.

KYLF Volunteers: Touching Human Lives

When GBS students got a taste of life beyond industrial training, rather they got a chance to be better human beings and prepared to face the world at large

When you need money the most in life, you start giving and not getting. That’s how BDG started Kalyani Youth Leadership Forum or KYLF. His experience of running the largest and most successful Rotaract club of Kolkata made him wonder why not start something on his own for the GBS students to get a hands-on feel of serving the society. He thus created a platform for ‘pure giving’ with the least show off or noise, rather he made the youngsters who were the KYLF volunteers realize how important blessings are – blessings of those who are being served.

BDG’s mother Kalyani was his inspiration, a woman who was very giving in everything she did and who instilled in him the values of philanthropy. BDG often asked his students ‘How many Human Lives Have You Touched?’ The KYLF volunteers were highly impacted by this cause, visiting old age homes, specially-abled kids and adults, lifting a 91-year-old lady, celebrating their birthdays and bringing a smile to them. While most institutions make students industry ready, BDG was making GBS students ready to face the world and turn into better managers with the compassion needed to excel in any field of life. Not just a degree, GBS-KYLF volunteers thus turned intellectually far ahead than others and did better in both professional and personal life.
