Acquisition of Synergy and Movement into Fintech – Genesis of NOTIVA

Acquiring a new company and structuring it to take it to new heights always excited BDG

Bikram Dasgupta always loves to venture into new avenues and try out new ventures, for that’s the challenge that excites his entrepreneurial mind. Such an opportunity dawned when he acquired a software product company. So long BDG was involved in the service sector and now that he was diversifying from services to product, he just enjoyed the transition. Though the company was headquartered in Chennai, BDG travelled regularly between Kolkata and Chennai to restructure the company and bring it to Kolkata. And he did the transition all by himself from stock swapping, to restructuring the workforce and so on.

Later, his son Romit took over this venture after returning from USA as a computer engineer. Though it was a small company then, thanks to Romit, who added many new products to it, the company reached new heights and was named NOTIVA. For BDG as an entrepreneur this was an interesting phase as his mother company transitioned from Services to Product sector and the reverse merger was an interesting entrepreneurial play in restructuring.

GLOBSYN FINISHING SCHOOL: Finding relevance in technology

‘Why is an engineer in professional life not doing engineering work?’ a question that BDG has often asked his innumerable students. Thousands of engineering students graduate every year, little understanding what they are prepared for, what skills they need to have to actually land themselves in a better position professionally or even the direction they wish to go as far as the various segments of technology is concerned. This is where BDG realized the gap lies and to fill that in, he launched Globsyn Finishing School. The school is so popular that each year hundreds of engineering institutes send thousands of students to get a hang of the skills and different technologies that are practiced in the real job world.

Training and skilling youngsters in relevant technologies for the future is a need that most people in the 90s did not realise. Just a degree never comes handy, what one needs is to know how to use that degree in the proper way. From machine learning to JAVA to several other technologies, Globsyn Finishing School makes students ready for jobs.

BDG believes the education system in India is highly linear and hence every student needs to know their aptitude and only then they can excel in their job life. The Knowledge Finishing School System pioneered by BDG helps students understand how they are suited to apply their knowledge in different spheres and then allows them to build their aptitude through management studies, projects, behavioral sciences and technology of the day to follow their dreams and turn ready for the future.

GLOBSYN KNOWLEDGE CAMPUS: Accreditation of AICTE

It was in the year 2011 that Globsyn Business School got the accreditation of AICTE. Not that BDG was waiting to be recognized first and then move on, rather he was doing it the other way round. Since 2002 he created the Business School and took it forward with his vision to such a level that AICTE accreditation would have anyway come. He was confident as he had a lot of content and milestones created already. Parents were already sending their wards to GBS as it had by then established as a brand with a difference.

In 2009 BDG bought 2.5 acres of land to build the Globsyn Knowledge Campus. Since he did not have much money, he bought the plots in small parcels. He already had a super architect and a team that had helped him with building of Infinity. He roped them and they helped him to complete the building and its ecosystem in just 6 months. Then the day came for the AICTE inspection when BDG’s son Romit was running a high temperature. Yet he was present by his father’s side and together they helped the officials to inspect. The officials were so impressed that then and there they signed the accreditation and thus it was a big day for GBS – all its staff, parents and students. GBS was now part of a bigger system. There was no looking back since then.
